We would like to inform you that the selling price and buying price in the order book are determined entirely by the market mechanism of Indodax members. This is what causes the difference between the lowest selling price and the highest buying price.

This difference is known as the spread. The spread is the difference between the ask price and the bid price of a crypto asset in the market. Spread is one of the basic concepts in trading and investing, including in the crypto market.

  • Buy Price (Ask/Offer): The price requested by the seller.

  • Sell Price (Bid): The price offered by the buyer.

There are several main factors that cause this gap:

  • Market Liquidity: This is the biggest factor. In very busy (high liquidity) markets such as Bitcoin, many people are queuing to sell and buy, so the gap is very small. Conversely, for less popular coins, there are fewer queues, so the gap between the selling and buying prices becomes wider.

  • Market Mechanism (Order Book): Indodax is a marketplace that brings sellers and buyers together directly. Prices are determined by agreements between users, not by the platform. The difference arises because buyers want the lowest possible price, while sellers want the highest possible price.

  • Price Volatility: When market prices are fluctuating rapidly, spreads tend to widen because traders are more cautious in placing their bid and ask prices.

If you want to get the best price, it is recommended to use the Limit Order feature. With this feature, you can determine the price at which you want to buy or sell, then wait until another user agrees to that price.
