Definition of CoinMarketCap
Coinmarketcap.com is a complete and up-to-date site that shows the price movements of all digital assets in the world. As of August 2016, there are already more than 690 digital assets listed on this site. This site can also be used to compare the rate of a digital asset on various exchanges in the world. Its mission is to make crypto discoverable and efficient globally by empowering retail users with unbiased, high-quality, and accurate information to draw their own informed conclusions.
A Brief History of CoinMarketCap
Founded by Brandon Chez in May 2013, CoinMarketCap has quickly grown to become the most trusted source by users, institutions, and media to compare thousands of crypto assets and is commonly cited by CNBC, Bloomberg, and other major news outlets. (Even the US government uses CoinMarketCap data for research and reports!)
In April 2020, CoinMarketCap was acquired by Binance Capital Mgmt. Binance is the global blockchain company behind the world's largest digital asset exchange by trading volume and users, which shares the vision of making crypto accessible and systemically important to people around the world.
Through the acquisition, CoinMarketCap plans to utilize its parent company's extensive resources to acquire more in-depth data into projects, reduce information asymmetry in the crypto industry and bring higher quality data to its hundreds of millions of users.
CoinMarketCap stands firmly for accurate, timely and unbiased information. Since being acquired by Binance in early 2020, CoinMarketCap continues to operate independently from its parent company. Read our disclosure policy for more information.
