Polygon zkEVM is a blockchain network protocol that is a zero-knowledge (ZK) technology-based scale solution compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

It was developed by Polygon Labs and serves as a Layer 2 network for Ethereum that offers better scale and lower transaction fees.

As a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum, Polygon zkEVM uses ZK technology to reduce transaction fees and increase network throughput, while maintaining the same level of security as Layer 1 Ethereum.

Despite operating as a separate network, Polygon zkEVM remains compatible with the EVM infrastructure, allowing applications running on it to use the same smart contracts, wallets, and developer tools as on Ethereum L1.

As such, Polygon zkEVM provides a scalability solution without compromising compatibility with the established Ethereum ecosystem.
